Putting My Experience
27 years in South Carolina Public Schools have blessed me with many opportunities to lead and to learn. As a former teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal, I possess a deep understanding of building-level challenges that must be faced and overcome so that all students are successful. My focus on students and the teachers who guide their learning has continued to direct my steps both at district and state levels. Working at the South Carolina Department of Education for the past seven years has shown me how legislation and policy inform reality for our districts and schools. As Director of the Office of Standards and Learning, I was committed to ensuring that our state standards were South Carolina Standards, created by OUR state and adopted to move OUR students toward College and Career Readiness. Most importantly, I am a proud and very engaged mom of a GCSD middle-schooler, and I understand, firsthand, the importance of parents' involvement and advocacy in their children's education.
I am committed to putting my knowledge and experience to work in Greenville County School District to foster learning environments that are safe, engaging, and student-centered. I will strive to ensure the recruitment and retention of the very best teachers and staff, not only through advocacy for better pay, but also through intentional, prescriptive, and job-embedded professional development to support professional growth. Finally, I will continue to focus on pathways to post-high school success for EVERY student in Greenville County through channeling their strengths and career aspirations in conjunction with coursework and learning opportunities that are designed to help them reach their goals.
